Have you ever felt as though you were just going through the motions? Work, Monday through Friday, then Church on the weekend, and maybe a fun activity or two if you’re fortunate? Yet, there remains a silent reminder that there must be more to life than this. If you’ve had these experiences, my friend, you’re not alone. One morning as I was getting ready for work, I heard God say, “Operating without purpose is a life lived under Subjection not Dominion!” Though I knew my purpose, at the time, I wasn’t consistently cultivating it. As a result, the emptiness, the boredom, the dissatisfaction, and the procrastination began to plant seeds in my heart, which prevented me from living out God’s mandate: to have Kingly rulership (i.e. purpose) over the earth (Genesis 1:26). I must confess, even in writing this blog post I had to fight against the spirit of procrastination. Nevertheless, here are some ways to identify your purpose and experience the fruitfulness that comes with it (Genesis 1:28).
1. God will always reveal to you His purpose for your life
Know that God will use anything to speak to you. Not only a sermon, but also nature, boredom at a job, sympathy for those in need, and various signs to indicate where He wants you to go (i.e. Gideon and Moses). The question is, are you listening? Have you aligned yourself to the frequencies of heaven to know His will on earth as He planned it in Heaven? In order to hear what He’s saying, one must be positioned as a servant NOT ruler with a heart in tuned to receive and accept His direction (1 Samuel 3:10).
2. Feelings of fear, a natural reaction to God’s Assignment
If your purpose brings feelings of fear and inadequacy, you’ve hit the sweet spot of your assignment (Jeremiah 1:7). Oftentimes, fear reveals itself in the form of excuses (ask Saul-1 Sam. 13:21, Jeremiah- Jer. 1:6, and Moses- Ex.3:11 & Ex.4:10-11), disobedience (ask Jonah –Jonah 1:3), or laughter (ask Sarah-Gen. 18:12). If you feel no fear & you’re confident you can do it on your own, chances are this is not your purpose. You’re supposed to feel overwhelmed initially, as you cannot achieve this task on your own strength. As in the Shack movie, “It’s better if we do this with CHRIST.”
3. Your Purpose is for the benefit others
Knowing your purpose is vital to your walk with Christ and your relationship with those around you. The world needs your purpose! There are lives that will be saved as you fulfill God’s plan for your life. Your purpose or your testimony is key to overcoming this world. For it says, “they overcame through the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; and they had not loved their lives unto death.” If you want to live a life without being constantly phased by the things of this world, live a purpose driven life (ask Paul –Phil. 4:11-13)
**Exercise Time** (Take a moment to answer these questions. For me, after answering these questions & talking to the Lord, God Investors was born. Trust me He makes it His business to reveal His plan to you.)
1. List the talents that God has given you.
2. Who are the mentors that inspire you to be a better person? What do they do for a living?
3. Do you have a burning desire to accomplish something? What is it?
4. What would you attempt to do if you knew you would never fail or need financial dividends?
5. How do you want to be remembered?
6. How will the world know you were here?
7. What’s your favorite way to give back to those in need?
***Please Note: Once you become impregnated with purpose, you WILL become a threat to the enemy. Remain focused on God’s word and his directives and your purpose will have a safe delivery.
